Quick Guide to Microsoft PowerPoint XP

What else would you like me to add on this sheet?  The steps will be posted within an hour of my receiving your suggestion.

Create a document:

1) Double click PowerPoint  icon

2) If you already have a saved PowerPoint, go to "File," "Open."  If not, then begin on the first slide of the screen that opens.  This works like Microsoft Word in many ways.

3) Type the title and subtitle for whatever it is you're presenting

4) Click on the "new slide" icon on the top right.  Do not click on the new page icon on the top left for doing so will open a new presentation instead of a new slide for the existing presentation.

5) A slide layout menu should appear on the task pane (if you don't see a task pane on the left, go to View, Task Pane).  Choose the layout that you want for the current slide.

6) Continue with the new slide procedure until you've added all your content.

Create Links:

1) Highlight any word or phrase or picture

2) Right-click the highlighted area and choose "hyperlink"

3) Type the address where you want the link to go

4) Click okay

5) Save the page

Change Backgrounds:

1) Right click that drop down arrow on your task pane, the one to the right of "slide layout"

2) Select "Design Templates"

3) Choose a design template by double clicking on it.  It should change all your white slides to the chosen design.

Add animations:

1) Right click that drop down arrow on your task pane again.

2) Select "Animation Schemes"

3) Choose an animation scheme for the present page.  If you like, you can apply that scheme to all pages.

4) You can also select particular objects (text or images) on a given page to do specific functions by selecting the "Custom Animation" under the drop down arrow on the task pane.

When done, save your PowerPoint in a place where you can find it again later for syncing with a Producer presentation.

(*You can also save it as a webpage by clicking "file," "save as webpage."  If you save it as a webpage (let's name it "my_pp_presentation"), an accompanying folder will appear entitled "my_pp_presentation_files".  Since that file folder contains all the pictures and other data for the converted PowerPoint, both the html document and the accompanying folder must be uploaded if you're saving this to a webserver.  Note: you cannot sync a webversion of a PowerPoint with Producer.  You can only sync it in .ppt form.)
